Piggy where r u?

Recently under the advice of few of my friends, I have started using gym facilities. So everyday I go there and use the treadmill...and do some weight exercises. Anyways...as I struggle to do even 1 mile in the treadmill, I was wondering if my stamina has increased or decreased compared to my schooldays. 1 mile is 1.6 km, which is 1600 mtrs. Those numbers take me back to the old school days(not that I’m too old :-))

1500 mtrs race…
Back in school days...the closest to 1600 mtrs that we ran was the 1500 mtrs race. The 1500 mtrs race was fun(You will soon know why).

Traditionally(meaning...before our batch arrived), the 1500 mtrs was a dull race...wherein 20-30 odd students used to compete in a heats format. Hence the race used to be a two day affair.

Now you might wonder why was it dull? How much fun is to watch a race where the winner walks to the finish line … faints and doesn’t get up for the next few days(not atleast till all of us have already left the stadium). Infact we spent the next few days wondering what happened to this guy(the winner)…is he gonna attend school anymore?

Hmmm... so that’s before our batch arrived. But after we arrived our P.T "saar", otherwise known as Mr.Hitler, realized that we were a bunch of bloody buggers(yes…that’s what he called us) who never took this race seriously. So all of us were to run just one race. The winner takes it all in just one race!

During one such day, WE(as in me n my hopeless set of friends) took part in 1500 mtrs. WE knew WE did not stand even a slight chance to win. Just like how Americans call themselves world champions by competing among themselves...WE were gonna race against each other. Who came first among the "Rest of the world"(they are too insignificant to have such a long name…so lets call them ROW) did not really matter to US.

So as soon as the whistle was blown...WE started sprinting...as if it were some 100 mtr dash. By the time the first lap was done...WE were leading the ROWs by a huge distance. ROWs were confused as to what was happening. So even they decided to sprint(But couldn’t gain on us though!).

Being human…we had to stop soon! And so stop we did. But, as soon the guy ahead of us wriggled his thumb finger (which meant…”yeah! I’m leading you now”), we would pick up and start running again. Looking at our start-stop-start-stop…technique…Mr.Hitler had lost count as to who had done how many laps?

Anyways…it was time for us to give up. OUR race was almost over...cos WE had sprinted for about 800 odd mtrs and were just about ready to fall on the ground. Now the competition was to see who falls last! One by one ...each one of gave up...n were lying down by the side of the race track.

By this time the ROWs had caught up with us. As they passed by US they would give us a giggle or two. Were we really looking at them? Nooooooooo. So what were we doing? We were busy looking at each other n wriggling our thumb(which this time meant..."hahahaha I beat U this time").

Among US racers was a well known figure called Piggy(Occasionally we did try calling him Prashanth…but found it really hard). So back to the race…I was busy laughing at Piggy who was standing dead tired a few mtrs behind me. Looking at me Piggy suddenly realized, all of US except him were already down...n hence would not get up for another hour even if there was a storm coming.

From out of no where piggy picked up energy and starts running. By this time with so many thing happening around him, Hitler had lost count of who had done how many laps.
Looking at piggy's energy level...the ROWs gave up...one by one. The most noticeable scenario was ... piggy would overtake a ROW...n the ROW would give up and fall down then n there. This went on and on...while WE looked in disbelief. We could not believe one among US is actually gonna be a "world champion". Anyways...the rest is history...WE won (ahem..piggy won!).

From then on WE(WE...as in Piggy alone!) became "world champions" even in long distance racing. There ends the story about one of the most entertaining race I have been on. Clap Clap Clap…ok story over…thanks for reading this far.

Today happens to be the Birthday of my best friend(which in other words is me). Its been a wonderfull day till now…with lots of wishes pouring in from unexpected quarters. So….thanks a lot guyz for your wishes. For those who missed wishing me…U will sooon regret it…mark my word!
